Unit 5 Reflection
Unit 5
This has to be the hardest and most complicated unit I have ever seen. It is on the Structure and purpose of DNA. We learned about genes and alleles and this is where we learn the foundation of what we learned in unit 4. We apply and learn the coding of life. The code is simple and only has 4 symbols, A T G C. It is coiled up and impossible to see but is 2 meters long and is in every cell in your body.
What was the Best part?
The best part was learning about the DNA and how RNA is the mover of information. It taught me why RNA is important. The only thing I really want to learn more about is why ATP is the universal $$$ in Cells. I really enjoyed the look of the DNA double helix. I want to know more about the components the Histone, for I don,t really understand it. I find it interesting to know how genes are regulated and suppressed. My favorite part of this whole unit was Mutations. It was one of the only concepts I truly understand. I am really interested in the deletion of genes and wonder if that could be used as a Bio Weapon. I always seem to relate my Biology to Bio Weapons but hey, they are called BIO WEAPONS for a reason.
Mutations:
It makes me now laugh at teenage mutant ninja turtles for having a unrealistic, unimaginative, situation. I'm really surprised it made it big and if my BIO TEACHER watched the movies, I will cry. I just want to make a shout out to the producers of the series wasted my youth and that I will never make up for it. We should all really learn about mutations in 1st grade and I learned that they are common in humans and that most just don't affect people in their lives. We learned a lot about these and I was interested in the coloration in lobsters, so I did some research on it. The stats are: Blue Lobster(0.00000005%), Crimson Lobster(0.00000001) and Albino(crystal) Lobster(0.000000001%) and that these are crazy rare!
