UNIT 4 Reflection

Coin Sex Lab

This lab(despite its' name) is not about coins having sex, it is about flipping a coin and finding the different possibilities about getting a gene(allele) and the probability of the recombination of genes you will inherit. This is all on track with gene segregation(meiosis) and autosomal or x-linked inheritance. It showed us(with punnett squares) Monohybrids(based on 1 gene) and Dihybrids(based on 2 genes) and the types of Homozygous and Heterozygous and how they change our gene

So.... Why is sex so great? the answer is simple, it makes genetic composition different. What did you think I was going to say? Put that in the comments below, lets get back on topic. The reason is genetic variation that we get and that is the reason we survive and adapt. It makes me glad to not be a prokaryotic and to be genetically different(or dating would be weird) and that we are all difference. Our difference is the key to life and success. It guides us but makes new problems and fixes old ones. I also feel that Unit 4 is the most connecting unit to other units and makes me understand(even though it's more complicated) the reason we learned about. Some main things we went over was that the differences in dominant and recessive alleles and I am growing on the inheritance and find the genome fascinating. I can see a career in genetics though I can't see myself reading genes, I can definitely predict (If I have a Kid) what my kid will look like.

Some Questions I have Are:
  1. Can you Change your genes to look better?
  2. Does your blood type tell how well you can process oxygen?
  3. Can you give another animal your traits?
Thanks for reading and if you can answer the questions in the comments below Please Do
