UNIT 4 Reflection

Coin Sex Lab This lab(despite its' name) is not about coins having sex, it is about flipping a coin and finding the different possibilities about getting a gene(allele) and the probability of the recombination of genes you will inherit. This is all on track with gene segregation(meiosis) and autosomal or x-linked inheritance. It showed us(with punnett squares) Monohybrids(based on 1 gene) and Dihybrids(based on 2 genes) and the types of Homozygous and Heterozygous and how they change our gene https://coins.thefuntimesguide.com/files/lincoln-cent-varieties.png So.... Why is sex so great? the answer is simple, it makes genetic composition different. What did you think I was going to say? Put that in the comments below, lets get back on topic. The reason is genetic variation that we get and that is the reason we survive and adapt. It makes me glad to not be a prokaryotic and to be genetically different(or dating would be weird) and that we are all difference. Our differen...

Is Sex Important?

Is Sex Important? This is a great question to talk about, for we are Eukaryotes, so we produce sexually. But what about the Porokaryotes? If Asexual reproduction dooms a species, why is there more Prokaryotes? There are several answers to this questions: They only need 1 offspring to ensure same population This means that we(eukaryotes) need 2 offspring to keep population. This gives the Prokaryotes a huge advantage, but what ruins this is genetic mutations. Most mutations are bad and they will eventually kill off the whole species. One fact to counter this is: Prokaryotes that move can survive This helps prokaryotes to keep away from bad environments and viruses. The down side to this is that most die trying to move and they could be moved to a worse place. Prokaryotes can adapt Most of these(like the Flu) are only alive because they can change so that they can share and steal DNA to change and get stronger. Prokayotes have the same DNA This may see...
