Microscopic Organism Lab

Image
Microscopic Organism Lab For each organism, list the cell parts you were able to identify: Muscle cell:   Ligustrum :    Spirogyra : Cyanobacteria:     Euglena :   Amoeba :   What were the characteristics of the autotrophs? They had chloroplast and cell walls What were the characteristics of the heterotrophs? nucleus and psedopods What were the characteristics of the eukaryotes?  many cells, nucleus and membranes What were the characteristics of the prokaryotes? single celled, and not very complex

Unit 3 Reflection

Unit 3          In this unit I learned in a main concepts about 2 things: Almost everything is a cycle There are 2 types of cells           This was not really the main Ideas in the Vodcasts or in labs but each time I look back this is the main pattern I saw. Ex for 1: Cell Theory, Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration, Diffusion, and DNA. These are all cycles, sure DNA changes but if you look at the blueprint all humans are extremely close and the differences are very small in DNA. Cell Theory is that all cell come from other cell, a cycle, Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration counter each other to make energy, Diffusion keeps the cell the same and makes it get bigger or smaller to keep equilibrium. All this info tells me is that most thing in life or about life or why life is a cycle. This cycle continues and made us into who we are. some may argue if it was a cycle, why aren't we unicellular, the answer is that thi...

Egg Diffusion Lab

Image
EGG DIFFUSION LAB In this Lab we asked what would happen if we put an egg in corn syrup, or if we put it in water, what would happen to it. We found that in the Syrup the egg shrank due to diffusion , which is when a cell gets Passive diffusion due to a mixture from a high concentration to a low concentration . The sugar made it Hypertonic , or when it losses water and shrinks. The water solution was a Hypotonic , so the cell used passive diffusion to grow bigger. This was all due to diffusion.  We should have washed of the shell because we couldn't see the membrane and We didn't put enough corn syrup. Avoid this by taking extra care and don't make these mistakes. One way to improve this Lab would to be to try different times, and multiple eggs. In society today we use this a lot, like when we put salt and ice, and we pickle things in vinegar. This is used to preserve food. A experiment we could do is that we could put cucumbers in DI water, and some in salt ...

Egg Macromolecules Lab

Image
Egg Macromolecules Lab              In this Lab we wondered if an egg was like a giant cell, would the parts of the egg that resembled the corresponding parts in the egg by having the same Macro molecules. We found that the data was correct and found which molecules in the egg, which told us what molecules the cell would have. We found to following results. These are all accurate of the regular cell. Errors:           one error is that the water had lipids, and we were puzzled by because it was tap water. If you see this in your water comment below. We avoided most errors but you have to be careful when you separate the egg from the shell and the membrane.   My Thoughts:              This Lab was great buy it could be expanded. We could try different eggs or let the chemicals work longer than they did to see hidden Macromol...
