Hunger Games Lab

Image
Hunger Games Lab In this lab we simulated the allele variation in a way of eating food and showed how the population can shift in 1 direction or another. The best phenotype in this situation was the pincher because they could easily pick up food, 2 at a time and had more control while the stumpies had a hard time surviving. The population evolved and it seemed to go more to the heterozygous and it seemed basically they ruled the population most of the time, but being heterozygous meant that they sometimes had one of the extremes in the end. One thing that made the lab random was that sometimes there was different years like the plastic year which didn't favor any species. I think of the food had been way larger the pinchers couldn't have picked any up and the stumpies would have thrived. If there was no incomplete dominance the stumpies would have died out almost instantly. I think natural selection drives evolution and seems to help the weed out the weak. It seemed tha...

Bird Beak Lab

Image
In the Bird Beak Lab we backed up the knowledge of natural selection. Hypothesis #1: If the best animals survive then, that means they get the most food and have the most kids. Hypothesis #2: If better traits lead to more offspring then, they get the most food and have the most offspring. In this lab we saw the realities of survival of the fittest. My hypotheses where "If the best animals survive then, that means they get the most food and have the most kids." and " If better traits lead to more offspring then, they get the most food and have the most offspring." It basically  means that the best will survive. We saw that the tweezer beak survived the best because it obviously had the most offspring. It was caused because the tweezers had the best beak for the job and it could pick up all the types of food. This gave it a huge advantage because some of the other beaks couldn't pick up all the types of food. For example the scissors couldn't pick up pap...

Unit 7 Reflection

Heyyyyy Blog Readers!!!! Back here with another unit review! This unit (Unit 7) is about Ecology and food chains and all the fun stuff that makes ecosystems work and how we can help the destruction we have wrought. In fact I recently watched An Inconvenient Sequel, which is about global warning and how we can counter it by using clean energy. Just an FYI get off my blog if you do not believe in global warming. Anyway I just wanted to extent to you peeps that the planets whole ecosystem is in danger and as a proof for that, that I noticed is that 2 of my classes that are not related are discussing it. Also as to add to my impact in the world I am going to talk talk to Mr. Robinson (My Principle to all you non falcons) about getting some solar panels on the library, one of the most energy losing places of the school because the computers there are on 24/7. I will also ask him what % we use is clean energy. Another thing is that this post I'm trying something different and instead of ...
